Sonoku Privacy Policy

Effective date: 2026-07-22

Sonoku is made by VIVA BOOKING LLC ("Viva Booking," "we," "us"). Sonoku is a comic and manga reader that performs a curated, growing catalog of titles as "visual audio books": per-character voices, audio descriptions, a soundtrack and sound effects, and cinematic panel-by-panel playback.

We wrote this policy the way we build the product: plainly. If anything here is unclear, email us at support@sonoku.app. A person reads every note.

The short version:

1. What we collect, and why

Your account

When you sign in with Apple, Google, or an email magic link, we receive an account identifier and, depending on the provider, your email address and display name. (Sonoku is passwordless; we never see or store a password.) We use these to keep your library, listening history, and subscription attached to you across devices. Sign-in is handled by Firebase Authentication (a Google service).

Subscription status

If you subscribe, the purchase happens through Apple's App Store. We receive your subscription status (active, trial, expired) via Apple and RevenueCat, our subscription-management provider, so the app knows what you have access to. We never see your payment card or billing details; Apple handles all payment processing.

Playback and usage analytics

The app reports basic usage events to our own servers: things like which titles and chapters you open, your place in a chapter (so you can pick up where you left off), when a listening session starts and ends, and playback behavior. It also reports basic technical diagnostics (for example, an error when audio fails to load) so we can fix problems. We use this to understand what's working and to make playback better. This data goes only to Sonoku's own backend. We do not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs, and Firebase's analytics collection is disabled in the app. No third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDK ships in Sonoku; usage and diagnostics are first-party only.

What we deliberately don't collect

Sonoku does not photograph, scan, or upload your own comics. The catalog is ours to serve, so there is nothing for you to capture. No ads, no ad identifiers, no location tracking, no contact-list access, no camera or photo-library access, no selling or renting of data to anyone, ever.

2. Third parties we use

We share data only with the service providers that make Sonoku run, only for the purposes above:

ProviderWhat they do for SonokuWhat they process
AppleSign in with Apple; App Store paymentsSign-in identifier; purchase/billing (Apple-side)
Google (Firebase)Authentication (Apple/Google/email magic-link sign-in)Account identifier, email
RevenueCatSubscription managementApp account identifier, subscription status
Amazon Web Services (AWS)Hosting, databases, and audio deliveryYour account, subscription, and playback data
CloudflareWebsite hosting + CDN for sonoku.app, including the /auth/link sign-in landerRequests to the site; its edge serves and may log request URLs, which for /auth/link can carry the one-time sign-in code (mitigated: that page is served with no-store and no-referrer, and it never transmits the code)
Forward Email (forwardemail.net)Email forwarding for support@sonoku.appEmails you send to our support address (forwarded to our operator inbox)

None of these providers may use your data for their own advertising, and we do not sell data to any of them or anyone else. (The AI voices, audio descriptions, and scripts in Sonoku's catalog are produced by us ahead of time; generating that catalog does not involve any of your personal data.)

3. Retention

4. Deleting your account and your data

You can delete your account from inside the app: Settings → Delete Account. This permanently deletes your account record right away.

The remaining server-side data associated with your account (listening history, subscription linkage) is deleted or de-identified within 30 days of account deletion. You can also email support@sonoku.app to request deletion of specific data.

5. Your rights (GDPR / CCPA and friends)

Wherever you live, we extend the same rights to you:

To exercise any of these, email support@sonoku.app. We will respond within the timelines the applicable law requires (typically 30 to 45 days), and we will never discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

If you are in the EU/EEA or UK: our legal bases are performance of our contract with you (running the app and your subscription) and our legitimate interest in understanding and improving how the product is used. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

6. Children

Sonoku is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. The App Store age rating reflects this. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, email support@sonoku.app and we will delete it. (This is our stance under the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, COPPA.)

7. Security

Data in transit is encrypted (HTTPS), audio is served through signed URLs, and server-side data lives in access-controlled AWS infrastructure in the United States. No system is perfectly secure, but we treat your account with care.

8. Where your data lives

Sonoku is operated from the United States and data is stored on U.S.-based servers. If you use Sonoku from elsewhere, your data will be transferred to and processed in the U.S.

9. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the effective date at the top and, for meaningful changes (like collecting a new kind of data), we'll tell you in the app before the change applies. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated policy.
