Sonoku is live today. It is an audio comic app that combines distinct character voices, music, sound effects, synchronized artwork, and optional audio description.
The first Sonoku series is Pepper & Carrot by David Revoy. Episodes 1 through 6 are available now. Episode 1 plays free without an account.
What Sonoku makes
Sonoku does not merely extract speech balloons and send them to text-to-speech. Each episode is produced in advance as a complete audio edition. Characters keep distinct voices, dialogue follows the intended panel order, score and effects support the scene, and optional descriptions communicate the visual action needed to understand the story.
Accessibility is part of the format
Most digital comics are image-based. Their dialogue does not reflow like an ebook, and a screen reader usually cannot recover the visual action, speaker, or reading order. Sonoku includes audio description so blind and low-vision listeners can follow the full scene rather than dialogue alone. Produced, reviewed, then published
Sonoku uses software to help prepare the script and audio, followed by editorial review before an episode is released. The goal is consistent story comprehension and audio quality across an entire series, not an instant conversion of an uploaded file.
Creators and rights
Sonoku publishes a curated catalog. It does not ask listeners to upload or scan commercial comics. Every series must be available under an appropriate open license or through an agreement with its rightsholder.

Statement of changes: The comic pages are unchanged. Sonoku adds a synchronized audio track of dialogue, narration, music and sound effects, an audio description track, and camera movement across the pages during playback. The banner image is a montage assembled from series pages, and the card image is the episode cover.
