Live audio comics
An audio comic app you can use now
Sonoku is a live audio comic app for listening to curated comics and manga. Each published episode combines distinct character voices, music, sound effects, synchronized artwork, and optional audio description. Pepper & Carrot episode 1 starts free without an account.
What is an audio comic?
An audio comic keeps the original comic episode at the center of the experience while making it possible to listen. Dialogue plays in reading order. The artwork moves with the audio. Music and sound effects support the scene, and optional descriptions communicate important visual action and context.
It is different from a conventional audiobook, which is usually based on prose, and different from an audio drama that adapts a story away from its pages. Sonoku presents the comic artwork and its audio edition together.
How Sonoku works
- Choose an episode from the curated Sonoku catalog.
- Press play. No comic scan or file upload is required.
- Listen while the original artwork stays synchronized with the audio.
- Keep audio description on for visual context, or turn it off when it is not needed.
Episodes are prepared before publication and pass an editorial review. Recurring characters keep distinct voices, dialogue follows the intended panel order, and the final edition is checked as a complete story rather than generated while a listener waits.

Built for listening and accessibility
Sonoku can be used as an audio-first story or with the synchronized artwork. Optional audio description communicates setting, expressions, actions, and transitions when those details are needed to understand the scene. It is built in from the start instead of added as an afterthought.
Read what an audio-described comic includes and how it differs from dialogue-only text-to-speech, an audiobook, or an audio drama. Blind and low-vision readers can also compare options in the guide to accessible comics and manga.
Readers comparing current methods can see how to listen to comics and how to listen to manga.
