What happens in The Secret Ingredients?
While visiting Komona City, Pepper discovers a potion-making contest with a 50,000Ko grand prize and only one day left to prepare. She and Carrot race across Hereva in search of unusual ingredients: mist from black clouds, berries from a haunted jungle, phoenix eggshells, and dragon-cow milk.
Their journey becomes a fast fantasy travelogue before they return home to begin an all-night preparation session. The episode introduces Saffron and sets up the contest that continues in episode 6, but the ingredient hunt also stands on its own as an adventure.
Hearing the journey across Hereva
This episode changes locations quickly and communicates much of its world through backgrounds, creatures, and silent reaction shots. Sonoku's audio description identifies each destination and ingredient while distinct voices separate Pepper and Saffron. Music and environmental effects give every stop its own atmosphere, and the original artwork stays synchronized with the narration and dialogue.
